The very first casino was "The Pair-of-Dice Club" built on highway 91 in 1931. The first one that was built on what is called today "The Strip" was the EL Rancho Vegas, that opened on April 3rd in 1941. It had 63 rooms and stood for nearly 20 years, when it was destroyed by a fire, in 1960.

The success of it brought the second hotel, "The Hotel Last Frontier" in 1942. Then came The Flamingo that opened a few years later on December 26th, 1946.

Well, they exploded the last Frontier to make room for the brand new "encore". Just a couple weeks ago they took down the old Frontier sign.

Someplace here we have a video of the Frontier implosion - kinda sad to see. But - leave it to Vegas to make a sad occasion beautiful.

Well that is interesting information. I didn't know that the casinos and hotels started way back in the thirties. I did see the implosion video. You are right it was very sad to see it go but it went out in Vegas style. What a way to go.
