CityCenter Condo Project Cancelled

The Harmon Hotel & Spa was supposed to be 400 hotel rooms and 200 condominiums within the forty-nine story building. Now, the condos have been chucked from the plans due to major construction problems.

The forty-nine story building was supposed to have the 200 condos above the 400 hotel rooms but now the plans are going forward without the condos being included. MGM Mirage, the CityCenter developer has made the decision to scrap that sector of the project. A county official said that major errors were found on 14 floors of the CityCenter unit.

The Harmon is one of six towers under construction on the strip being built as part of MGM Mirage's CityCenter resort complex. It is set to open in November.

Rebar is being said to be the culprit causing the cancellation of the condos in the plans.

Hmmm, that throws a crimp in things. I just posted a video that was solicitng condo buyers at city center here http://www.thecompletevegassite.com/forum/f7/city-center-t188/ . I guess that is now obsolete. Still, the project is an amazingly huge undertaking.

Each time I went it seemed like it was less and less progress, I thought it was economy, maybe it was all structural issues.

Probably they overestimated how many stories the foundation can accomodate. So they had to make it shorter...

Perhaps I should read on before posting too.

I had thought they were slowing down a bit on my last visit.

I know MGM was having problems a while back, so this explains it. I had a feeling this complex might have been why they were being held back or starting to loose a little in the cash flow area.

well they mention in other post...the video...that there are 3 or 4 hotel/condo's....wonder which one is not getting the condos'...maybe it's the leaning one...lol

Lol, from what I read it was the one being called the Harmon. Maybe thats the leaning one rofl! They said the problems had something to do with the rebar they were using. Maybe it just wasn't strong enough or something. I don't know, I don't know very much about construction. Like you though, I think I would stay clear of that particular one for a while lol.
