I have never been to Vegas before and I really do hope that I get to go there sometime before I croak. I would love to see the sights. Anyone have any suggestions as to the best sights to see if you are on a tight budget? I always love the outdoor activities. Or a really good show.
I try to cut corners by packing some snacks, soda, and even sandwiches when I go away. Keeps down on a lot of stops, and the pocket book. I would love to try to go there but...not to fond of flying. I am a big chicken. It is pretty far from me. But, oh happy day if I ever had the chance to go.

If you get a room off the strip in a hotel/motel (not casino) it's inexpensive. The food is inexpensive away from the strip too. Lots of normal places for the locals.
You can then go to the strip for entertainment. Just walking through all the themed hotel/casinos can give you busy for days, taking in Rome at Ceasar's Palace, New York at New York New York, Paris at the Paris, Venice at the Venetian to name some with international themes. These places are great and really reproduce these cities in look and feel.
You can go back to medieval times at the Excalibur, see aquariums and tigers etc at the Mirage, a bird sanctuary at the Flamingo and so forth.
For entertainment after dark, try all the shows along the strip for free. The Volcano at the Mirage, Fountains at Bellagio, Pirate confrontation at Treasure Island, Musical illusions at the Wynn and Lightshow at Freemont Street experience are all free and impressive.
Some have free indoor shows, like Circus Circus and the Luxor.
Vegas on a budget is very possible and offers weeks of free exploration and fun.

I remember my dad telling me tales, years ago, about the $1.99 buffets in Vegas....too bad they aren't around anymore :(

No, but even at $15 or $20 they are still a good value for the money.
Usually the food selection is super and you can eat all you like of the expensive items. Meals like that would easily cost you $50 and up elsewhere.
Low cost Vegas vacations are very doable, the reason most people say it's expensive is because they stay on the strip in a casino and eat there too.
And even on the strip you can get very cheap Hotel rates if you are flexible with when you go.
Doing Vegas on a budget requires some self discipline, but so does doing anything on a budget.

Well thank you very much for all the information. I would really love to go to Excalibur and the Mirage. The casino's with the international themes really sounds interesting also. And stuff to do at night sounds beautiful like I would love to see the volcano, fountains and the lightshow. That is really wonderful that they have so much to see even without any money.

I've been to the Flamingo's bird sanctuary, it's pretty awesome.
I had kind-of accidentally stumbled upon it as walked outside to eat a sandwich and later have a smoke.
I noticed the different birds, and people walking around looking at different signs on the paths in this area.
So after finishing my sandwhich and smoke, I decided to do some strolling around myself.
There was a lady who was just starting to explain the different birds behind her, to include flamingos, and about the fish they have in the ponds there. Quite educational.
