LAS VEGAS -- Card professional Annie Duke will be the commissioner of a new league that is hoping to become the PGA of poker, defining the game's best players and hosting invitational tournaments for only its biggest stars.

The yet-to-be-named league is planning four televised regular-season events plus a $1 million championship freeroll at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas this year, league executives said.

"This is incredibly pro-centric," Duke told The Associated Press. "This is the one piece that's kind of missing from the poker landscape right now, which is something for the best players in the world to compete against the best players in the world

Well, I sure would like to know the name of Annie Duke's new poker league.

I like watching Annie Duke play poker, too. She's one of the first female poker players that I've seen move up so quickly in the poker leagues.

It's fitting that Annie Duke is starting a new poker league. More power to you, Annie. :D

As of yet, the new poker league has not been named.

This is another attempt to start a professionals only poker league. The PPT (Professional Poker Tour) had tried this during 2004-2005 but the attempt was absorbed by the World Poker Tour.

Heres hoping Annies attempt gains fruition.

I'm with you IloveVegas, about Annie Duke's new poker league getting geared up and moving onto the next stage.

When it does finally get started, I hope they make it televised. I'd love to see all the poker pros get together and "duke" it out on the poker tables. :D

Time will tell. Let's hope this idea doesn't get scooped up and thrown into the mix like it did back in 2005.
