There are two terms that aew associated with the slot machines that are sometimes used interchangeably and incorrectly by the players. These are Frequency and Payback.

Payback means the overall percentage that a machine will return to the player in the long run. Frequency is the percentage of spins that will return something to the player. No wonder they are confused, they are so much a like.

Payback figures are programmed into the machines computer chip and are set by the manufacturer to the specifications that the casino wishes to use for that machine.

Frequency is is based on how many times each symbol is on the wheel and how often a winning combination will occur.

Machines with small payback are usually referred as tight machine and those with higher payback are referred as loose machines.
Slot Frequency is the percentage of spins that return some thing to the player. Machines with low hit frequency may hit the winning combination only once out of every ten spins unlike the machines with high frequency which may hit 3-4 times out of every 10 spins.
