Now I think that this would be neat to see. It is a competition of cowboys mounted on horseback and of course shooting at targets while moving. This is something any western fan should see.

Coming soon to Las Vegas is going to be the CMSA for everyones entertainment.

The is one of the most entertaining Equestrian sports in the world. The mounted shooters are armed and ready to strut their talents for everyone to see. I know it sounds scary the cowboys use .45 caliber single action revolvers that are loaded with special designed rounds of blank ammunition.

There are even dress codes that are strictly kept. The dress code is of course the requirement of western style clothing. Either clothing designed with the 1800's in mind or traditional. Chaps or chinks, boots, hat, western long sleeved shirt and 5 pocket jeans.

You may even see some riders using a mule rather than a horse. Believe it or not some horses aren't willing to deal with the loud noises and fast pace. So in those cases some will use mules instead. Often riders will even wear earplugs for themselves and even their mounts to help lessen the noise.

Check out the link below for some great videos and more information

Oh that sounds like fun! Does that mean that regular people can participate I wonder? My internet is being wonky so I could read the whole article on it. My husband would love to try something like that. he is really into the old western movies and stuff. It would be a blast if people could particpate.

Oh this sure does sound like something that would be fun to watch. One would have to be sure to take ear plugs though. I think the noise would be deafening.

I agree, it would be great if anyone could participate in this. There are a lot of guys out there that would just love to take part in something of this nature as most guys love westerns.

And to think my wife and I watched the True Grit 2010 movie last night, with Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogbern.

I was waiting for the end of the movie, like the one John Wayne starred in back in 1969, where Rooster rode his horse, reigns in his mouth and shooting with both hands.
The new movie shows Jeff using two pistols for his two handed shooting feat, but John Wayne used a rifle in his right hand and a pistol in his left...
That seemed more of a feat than the two pistols that Jeff Bridges shot with.

True Grit 2010 is a movie you could watch one time because it seemed a little boring, at least it did to my wife and I.
But the True Grit movie starring John Wayne, I could watch a few times and not get bored so easily.

Anyways, the Mounted Cowboy Shootout is what brought all this up.
I think it would be great to watch cowboys go up against each other to see who was the best; rootin', tootin', shootin-est, cowboy in the West! :D

As for regular people participating I don't think that is allowed because I know you have to have a trained mule or horse that can stand all of the noise with out showing fear or freaking out. So I am guessing that you have to have some kind of background in it or training.

Now as for western movies I have never been into them much, but I have seen a few and the stunts that these actors had to do in the movies is amazing. Some more than others, but still good.

I've seen a few make-believe old western shootouts in the past too. Those are fun to watch.

Those are usually done in the late spring to late summer months during what some western towns call their "Frontier Day".

I surely miss those too, as I once lived in a small northern California town up by the foothills near the Sierra Nevada mountains.
