When you get to Las Vegas and see the lights and hear the sounds, don't lose all of your common sense. Keep your wits about ya!

Remember, the casino managers are not stupid. They offer you free alcoholic beverages for a good reason. If they get you drunk, you are more likely to stay and spend more money even if you aren't hitting anything. Instead of drinking alcohol, ask for soda or juice. They are free too!

Ask the slot attendants which machines are "loose." They work around the machines all day long and know what ones are hitting. If you do win though, make sure you give him/her a tip!

If you see someone selling systems or books that supposedly show you how to "break the casino" stay away from them. It is a waste of money. Think about it, if they had the knowlege to break the casino, would they want everyone to know how?

Don't gamble longer than you planned or raise your bet just to get comps. If you are not hitting, you will end up spending more than what the comps are even worth.

That's a good point about not raising a bet for more comps vegasrocks. The only time I like raising is when the slot machine is hitting or I'm on the blackjack table and double-up on a card split or know that my cards will be good.

I had never thought of asking the machine attendants which machines were loose. I had always thought since they were working for the casino, that they were not allowed to give out info on loose machines. I may try asking next time just to see what their response is.

good tips but the days of asking slot attendants about loose machines is pretty much over. when slots were mechanical they would be set manually. slot managers would typically put loose set machines in high traffic areas.( end of rows, near bathrooms, near lobbies, etc.) now that machines are computers they average their payouts over the lifetime of the machines. millions upon millions of spins. "hot" or "cold" machines are just perceptions. since random number generaters are infinitly fast there is no way to determine how a machine is paying. even when you are in between spins the rng is still generating combinations. your "big hit" may come when you are picking your nose or staring at the cocktail girl not hitting the spin button. it may have just flown by. it is also the reason the myth about someone else hitting your jackpot, after you just got up, is not true. you may play on a machine for 3 hours then get up and the next person sits down and hits big on the first spin. that would not have been your hit. you would have had to hit the spin button at the exact moment they did. almost impossible. happy gaming...:)

Those are good points 1819, thanks for the info.

VegasLuvsMe, if you play where they have the old slot machines, definitely ask about what ones are hot. The attendants will almost always be happy to tell you which ones to play. They work day after day watching the boss man get rich while much of the time their pay stays the same. They won't mind helping you take some of his/her money lol!

I remember my dad telling me stories about going to the casinos and asking the waitresses which machines were hot....and they were always glad to tell him. Why? Because if he hit big, he'd give them a good tip for the info. ;) ...and they were right a good % of the time. :D

It's amazing today...as with gambling online, your spin's outcome is pre-determined as soon as you pull the lever or press the spin button. The reels/screens are just there for eye candy.

So slot machines are basically set up like those dollar machines that show money on them somewhere on the 5 reels.

You get lucky when 1 prize amount shows up on the reels, where the rest of the reels show nothing after a spin.

I've played a few dollars on those machines before. Not much for eye candy unless a $5, $10 or more shows up on the reels.
Sometimes you can get lucky enough to get one $1 sign stop on the reels, and break even on a spin. :crossfingers:
