Its important to get to the airport a couple of hours before your flight is scheduled to leave, and if you are a first time flyer like I was, even earlier than that would be a good idea to allow yourself plenty of time to get from place to place in the airport since this would most likely your first time in the airport.
By getting there a couple hours early, you have plenty of time to get through the baggage check and security checks. These lines can both be rather long at times.
It is much better to be early than it is to get stuck in a baggage line or security and miss your plane.
Do any of you frequent flyers have any information to add to this that my be valuable to first time flyers?

Leaving Vegas, especially on sundays, can take a very, very long time to pass security. I have been stuck in security for over an hour before.
So if you leave on sundays, go early!
And if there is a boxing event going on, you don't want to arrive that day and take a cab from the airport. I have waited for an hour there too. That can be an ordeal in the hot months...

I found that the best day to fly out on is Saturday; which can even be cheaper, compared to leaving on a Sunday. The lines at security are even lighter! During my last trip to Vegas in November, it only took about 15 minutes to get through to my gate...
I guess the reasoning behind this is that most people are flying out on a Friday, and flying back on Sundays...
And once you get to Vegas, head out to the shuttle bus areas, and don't worry about getting a cab. Not only is this the cheaper route (Usually $6 - $7 each way for a trip to hotels on the Strip, and about $1-$2 more for off-strip hotels), but you can buy a round trip ticket and not have to worry about paying them when you need to leave. Simply call them the day before you're leaving for the airport, and they'll pick you up at your hotel at the time you specify and drop you off right at your airline's entrance at the airport.
If you can swing it, catch the red-eye either going to, and/or leaving, Vegas. A lot of the times these flights aren't full, and most all of the times, it's a breeze going through security. Keep in mind that you'll need to let them know at the Hotel you're staying at that you're on a late flight (6pm+), or they may give your room away....

Thanks to all of your for the good advice. I've waited a long time for a chance to go to Vegas, I'd hate to miss my flight when I finally get to go!
