Thousands upon thousands of tourists have had their pictures taken in front of the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign. It used to be quite a treacherous prospect though as they had to dodge between speeding cars to do so. They no longer have that to worry about.
A new lot has been structured by the sign on Las Vegas Boulevard south of Russell Road. It features twelve parking spaces which includes two handi-capped spaces. There is also a space for tour buses on the median next to the lot.
This new lot was officially opened today and was celebrated with Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid in attendance and included showgirls and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
This lot cost $400,000 but County Commission Chairman Rory Reid said that this project was needed for a long time. He says that Las Vegas is known for it's accessibility for handi-capped people throughout the nation and he is glad to extend this to the world famous sign.
The famous Vegas icon has been in place since 1959 and for the first time, people don't have to jay walk or try to run inbetween the traffic to get to the tourist attraction.
