This is really sad. A man was found slumped over in his car in the parking lot of the Welcome To Las Vegas sign Las Vegas Boulevard near Russell Road. He apparently shot himself.
This happened early Wednesday morning. I guess an off-duty police officer was on his way to work about 5:30 am noticed the vehicle in the parking lot. He approached the vehicle and found the man dead.
No one is able to access the Las Vegas attraction while police officers investigate the area.
The mans identity has not yet been released. His body has been sent to the coroners office for investigation.
I just feel so bad for this man's family and friends.

It is sad, but does not sound like they know for sure he killed himself or not. Sounds like from what you said they are investigating it. If it was beyond doubt it was suicide, they would not be doing much investigation. My thought and prayers are with his family and friends.

That is sad new. The Police have ruled it as a suicide after their investigation concluded yesterday. They still haven't released his name or any reasoning for this suicide.

According to recent reports Las Vegas is the suicide capitol of America averaging one a day.
In Las Vegas, the odds of dying by suicide are strikingly high — twice as high as in the rest of the country. And the neon city is a risk for residents and visitors alike, according to a study in the current issue of the journal Social Science and Medicine.

Wow that is very sad. If I go to vegas I want to see the sites and shows. I could not gamble unless I set aside a little money and that was that. The thoughts playing out in my mind is he lost everything in Vegas and felt he could not go on. Kind of made a statement by doing it at the vegas sign. But that is just my weird mind thinking. For me having bad anxiety and depression I am just going to stick with the shows and maybe a small slot machine when I finally get to go.

I was thinking the same thing VegasVirgin.
That's strange, not long ago someone marked up the sign and the city had to spend time and money to clean it up.
Now someone else has made a really big statement by taking their life by the sign.
I'd much rather see someone go to prison for smearing the sign, than to have someone take their life over Las Vegas, whatever it was for.

This is really horrible news to hear. Nothing is worth taking your life over. Things can always be worked through some how. Though sadfully alot of people dont think that way and end up taking their own life.
I have to agree with everyone, gambling is fun, though there are limits to everyone's budget and should be held firmly. I know that when I go to Vegas I am going to gamble, but its only going to be a small amount, because there are just to many sites and other things I want to do and to try!
I hope that this man's family will be able to recover from this ordeal they are now going through!! They are in my thoughts and prayers.
