Default Ace and eights.

I was always told not to double on anything but aces and eights. It seems to me that this was sound advice.

I have tried to double on other combinations and have lost 99% of the time. What is it about Aces and eights that makes them the best bet?

I love to play blackjack but it is another game that I don't really know all that well. I play for fun online most of the time. The others I am just playing with my kids.

I am afraid to try to play for real at a casino as I think that I would just end up embarassing myself. Does anyone know the answer to the question above I would really like to know why they are the best bet.

I also love to play blackjack, however I am not very good at it at all. We use to play alot when I was growing up but, only for pennies. LOL!!! We never did the right way of playing, maybe thats why I don't understand it too well.

I think you mean split aces and eights?

What you need to remember that in the long run, it's always going to be profitable to double and/or split whenever logically possible. Each time that you don't do this when basic strategy calls for it, you're increasing the casino's advantage tremendously....under certain circumstances, the house edge will triple, if you don't split or double your hands!

The moral of the story is that even though you may lose that particular hand, you're just giving money away over time by not splitting or doubling your hands..

The Wizard has some great basic strategy cards that you can look over and study - http://wizardofodds.com/blackjack

I will give you my opinion..LOL The Aces can be a one or eleven, so even if the next card is a 10 you will have either blackjack or 12. with the 8 you can't bust with one more hit, cause if it is a 10 card you would have 18 and most of the time the dealer will be under or bust!! So you win double.
