Blackjack terms and what they mean.
SPLITTING PAIRS- If you have like two tens in your hand, you can split them into two separate hands as long as you make the same bet on each hand. Both hands will be treated as separate hands with cards dealt to the first ten first, then you hit or stand, if you stand, cards are then dealt to the second hand.
DOUBLE DOWN- If you believe that your hand has a better than average chance of hitting, you can double down before you decide to hit or stand.
Doubling down adds to your initial wager, therefore doubling your initial bet.
SURRENDER- Although most casinos dont offer this option, it can be a powerful for blackjack players. It works this way, if you dont like the first two cards you recieved, you just tell the dealer "surrender" and turn in your hand, but you do lose half your bet by doing this.
INSURANCE- If the dealer has an Ace showing, you make a bet equal to or half of your initial bet and put it on the insurance line. This way you are betting that the dealer has a natural "blackjack", and if he does, your bet pays off at 2 to 1. If not, you lose your insurance bet and most likely the original bet also.
