Lower Blackjack Payouts

I just read that lower payments for Blackjack is becoming popular in the Las Vegas casinos. At the same time though, minimum bets have been lowered as well.

In recent months, more than two dozen tables paying 6-5 for blackjacks have been added in Las Vegas, in some cases replacing games that paid the traditional 3-2. With the traditional payoff, a blackjack on a bet of $10 wins $15, but with 6-5 odds it wins only $12.

As many as 25% of the Blackjack tables on the strip have 6-5 odds.

Lots of people are ticked off about this. They say they are getting less bang for their bucks.

“We find ourselves gambling less and less on each visit due to the increasingly tighter games,” Stormont says. “They are not in business to lose, but somehow they managed to do very well in years past with better odds on games and inexpensive food and rooms.”

All I can say about this is that the casinos have been loosing money for the past year or so and are trying to make up for it by paying less at their tables.

The blackjack payout odds was suppose to take place in April this year, in Colorado.
So, I guess Las Vegas picked up on this and decided to agree with it too?

Oh well, such is the way of the gambling companies.

I still don't think they should lower the payouts when you get a blackjack.
Yeah, so they may have raised them years ago to give something for players to look forward to, but that doesn't mean they should drop it down again.

Just a few years ago, they only paid 6:5 on the single deck tables...are you sure that they changed it for all of the tables?

I saw somewhere in one of the Vegas news papers that a couple casinos were changing their blackjack payouts and other casinos were planning on following those changes.

A better house edge, so to speak.

They may be helping theirselves by changing their blackjack payouts, but I think in the long run they are hurting their business.

I hope my favorite blackjack tables haven't changed any since I've been there last.

I was reading that the newer casinos tighten their games to make extra money from players. The main reason they a losing money is the interest on the 50 billion in loans they took out to pay of the complex. Fewer players at the tables may be the 2nd biggest reason followed by the unemployment rate at #3.

Players taking the casino for big stacks counting or whatever must be in the top ten, but they are supposed to have ways of dealing with those people. I would include the comps and free trips handed out to players club members to rank high on the list of losses. McDonalds alone can strip a small fortune from the casino. Workers unions jack up payroll, and lets not forget the payoffs to people in or running for office. Gotta play both sides.

This is not very common online, but many live casinos have introduced tables with blackjack payouts of 6-to-5. When a winning blackjack hand is paid only 6-to-5 as opposed to the traditional 3-to-2, the casino picks up an extra 1.36% house advantage. Even with all other rules favorable to the player a casino can triple or even quadruple their house advantage simply by shorting the blackjack payouts. Blackjack players should refuse to play at any table paying less than 3-to-2 for winning blackjacks.
