Default New To Poker

For someone like myself who is fairly new to the game of poker, I was just wondering if there is any tips, tricks or other information that anyone can give to someone like me so that we might have a sporting chance of playing this game in Las Vegas.

I don't think I personally would ever have the guts to sit at a poker table in Las Vegas and actually play the game, but I am sure that there are people out there who have more courage than I do,LOL.

Yeah I happily admit that I am a coward when it comes to doing something like that. Though I wouldn't have a single problem sitting at a slot machine hoping to win,LOL.

I am hoping that anyone more familiar to the game will be able to offer some great information like tips and tricks to help those new to the game have a better chance of walking away a winner.

If you're new to poker and you want to try a live game, try playing online poker first.
It's not quite the same as a live poker game, but the cards come out about the same way in online poker as they do in live poker.

After you've had several or many hours of online poker play under your belt and you've learned how to play poker, then try the live games.

To get a hands-on experience before you hit a table, you can also try what most casinos offer; free poker lessons at one of their tables.
Most of the larger casinos offer game lessons for free during certain hours of a day.
The best thing to do is contact a casino floor manager and ask them directly if they offer free poker lessons.
If they do, then go to one, get your first hands-on live poker lesson, and learn the basics of live poker play. And then go for it.

As I've mentioned before, practice makes perfect...or at least a better poker player if that's the game you're playing.

I am so clueless when it comes to poker. I have never even tried to learn the game. I don't know how scoring goes, card values, nothing lol. Mu husband plays though. He is pretty good at it I guess.

I think the best place you can start playing poker is at an online poker site, like Poker Stars, they have freerolls you can join and a lot of free poker games you can play with free chips.
Or you can try Full Tilt online poker, they also have free poker play and freerolls.

I play at both poker sites a couple times a week during the weekends, when I have spare time. I play poker to relax, which is the best way to play.

For a new poker player, it would be difficult initially to play whether it is online game or a live land based games. For those players there are options like playing for free. Many good poker sites like as VegasLuvsMe mentioned PokerStars and FullTilt Poker are providing these facilities of playing for free. These sites are quite good to play. After gaining enough experience to play live, you can switch to real money play also.

That's right Cammi. And if y'all want to get into some poker freeroll action, Poker stars has continuous No Limit Holdem Freeroll tournaments right this very minute!

Come to speak of it, I'm playing in one now... Not doing too bad, in fifth place with 13 players left.

The Poker Stars freeroll tournaments start when 540 players have signed up.
You can play no limit holdem to your hearts content!

I can play poker but just dont care all that much for the game. I have thought about brushing up on my poker skills and trying one of the poker freerolls but I just dont have time these days.

But, maybe sometime this winter you will be able to find me trying my luck in a freeroll. I am just afraid to try it cause knowledgable poker players would probably find my naivete very irritating.

IluvVegas, get over to Poker Stars and sign up, if you haven't already, and play in their freerolls.
Freerolls may not be the best way to learn how to play No Limit Holdem, but you can learn a little about the game once you get through all the "all-ins" at the start of the tournaments.

I got lucky a couple times (out of around 10 or so tourneys) where I decided to go all-in like the rest of the table.
Out of the three times I went all-in, with what I thought was a good hand, I actually won two times.
Last night I won the pot when the whole table went all-in and that gave me a good step towards my other wins in that tournament...
I made it to 10th place!

A couple times I was in 6th and 7th place in the chip count when only 15 players were left.
If I had not gone all-in against a stack larger than mine I could have hung around a while longer and possibly won 1st or 2nd spot to go on to round 2.

I can still do it since there are freeroll tournaments starting every 5 or 10 minutes at Poker Stars, and I may give it a shot (or 5) again tonight.

Hi, you should first try some online poker rooms and get familiar with one type of game, holdem, omaha so you will be prepared when you get to a live poker room, this is important mostly because in poker you need skills mostly not luck.
