Default Roulette Q&A

I was reading a roulette Q&A section of a website and found an interesting question and an interesting answer to go with it.

The question was something like if you bet on black or 1-18 or even and the 0 or 00 comes up does the house take it all?

There was much debate on the topic and then at the end a person who says they are a dealer in Vegas at Caesars said that if 0 or 00 come up the only bet to be paid is a straight up bet on the 0 or 00, or a split bet containing the 0 or 00. He/she goes on to say a bet on red loses, a bet on black loses, same for even and odd.

He/she went to say that a 0 or a 00 table, as there are some single o tables, pay the same. There was a lot of debate about that too. He/she says the only reason people love the 0's is because they paint them green!

This person went on to say that you should remember the dealer likes to be tipped. He/she said that if you tip the dealer the dealer may :track the wheel" which means they will hit the same spot on the wheel for several spins for you which cuts the house's odds. That of course is against casino policy.

I am not big on roulette. What is your take on all of that?
