Default 98 foot sign and new casino okayed.

A developer has permission from the city of Las Vegas to construct a new casino at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.

There will also be a 98 foot wide screen sign in front of the casino when all is completed. Though a lot of city council members are wondering how well a casino without an attached hotel will do.

The sign will be 11,210 square foot sign/ video screen which will face the heavily traveled intersection. That should grab everyones attention.

The casino and retail space will be a two story building consisting of 31,700 square feet of floor space.

Quote:
The two-story building would have a 9,000-square-foot casino, a 6,000-square-foot restaurant and 4,000 square feet of retail space, including a Walgreens
but there are still worries that the project will not be viable without a hotel attached.

I would think that they of course won't make as much money as other places do with hotels but if they are in a high enough traffic area they may be just fine. I am sure lots of people casino hop while they are in town. The big screen sounds pretty cool.

I don't think the sign will cause too much problems, except for the local commuters who have to stop at the light and watch it.

The casino will be on the far end of the strip, just past the Stratosphere and across from Sahara's property.

There's not very much foot traffic down there, but I did see a lot of cars traveling to that intersection, the last time I walked down that way.

The funny part of the story is that signs are only supposed to be a maximum of 8 foot high, and it is probably because of the location that they are allowing the 98 foot high sign.

Originally, a 507 foot sign was considered, in fact, the statement was made that

In the future, I hope it is 507 (feet)

The bigger, the better. I think a Times Square kind of vibrancy is exactly what that corner needs

I know what they are saying in that statement.

They want to make it big enough so people from the main-strip action will see it. And I think that's about a mile away.

Too bad there's a corner in the road where it is.
Because the best viewing would be by the Venetian and the Wynn hotels, and the few casinos down the rest of that part of the stip.

My guess is that they will get a few more customers and the cabs will get a little busier after the sign goes up.

I just hope they have loose playing games as compared to the larger casinos.

That may be the best way to get more bodies their direction, from word of mouth.
