Canada Couple Vanish on Way to Las Vegas
This is just aweful. A couple traveling to Las Vegas from Canada have just vanished without much of a trace so far it seems.
The couple, 59 year old Albert Chretien and his wife, 56 year old Rita left British Columbia on a business trip to Las Vegas on March 19th. They were to return last Wednesday and when they didn't the family called the police.
Quote:
"They're not like the type to just flit off and decide ‘oh we're not going to do this, we're going to do something else without telling anybody,'" said Jennifer Chretien, the couple's daughter. "They wouldn't make anyone worry that way."
The Chretiens run an excavation business in Penticton and were driving to a trade show in Las Vegas when they went missing.
|
They entered the United States on March 19th and that afternoon their credit card was used at a gas station in Baker City, Oregon.
Thats the last trace of them at this point.
Quote:
Their family is asking anyone who may have seen the couple or their van to call police.
The Chretiens were travelling in a light brown, 2000 Chevrolet Astro minivan with the B.C. licence plate number 212 CAV.

Re: Canada Couple Vanish on Way to Las Vegas
That is horrible. I was doing some research to see if they have been found yet but havent seen anything that says that they were. Does anyone know if they were found?
My husband is an ex trucker and has traveled in that region and says that you can drive for miles and not see another car. Plus the cell phone usage in that area is extremely sketchy.
I sure hope that this couple is okay but after this amount of time, it sure doesnt look good. Will keep them and their family in our prayers.

Re: Canada Couple Vanish on Way to Las Vegas
That is terrible. I wonder why their daughter waited so long to contact the police?
Our family always stays in daily contact while traveling over a long distance, either on the road or by flight.
It looks like this couple went missing on the first or second day according to their credit card trasaction.
Going from Canada to Las Vegas, Nevada, there are many twisty mountain roads to travel and anything can happen while traveling in the wilderness even in a car, van or in a big rig (truck).
I use to drive a big truck and I was in communication nearly every day with my company.
Plus if I had any problem or break-down I was on the phone or used the computer in my truck to contact them.
I really hope this family is ok, whever they may be.

It is terrible and I still haven't heard anything else about this couple. I imagine the family must be out of their monds with worry.
I just looked them up to see if I could find any news but all i could find was an article posted today in the Las Vegas Sun where they are still searching for the couple. So terrible.

Re: Canada Couple Vanish on Way to Las Vegas
Well, I hope they find this missing Canadian couple, at least to bring closure for their families sake.
There are a lot of hazards when driving on the open highways and the first thing that came to mind for me when I heard about this missing couple, is there's a possibility they could have dropped off the edge of the road during their trip.
That would make if nearly impossible to find them, until a hiker or someone else comes across them; in a worse case senerio.
Please, if you ever travel the open roads, be sure to comminicate with family or friends during your travels, while traveling alone or not.

This is indeed scary and I am worried that they won't find them. I also worry how this affects how people feel about our country.
Of course there are criminals in all of the lands so it could happen anyway. I am hoping that they are ok and found soon.

Re: Canada Couple Vanish on Way to Las Vegas
Has anyone heard anything further about this missing couple? I have been looking for new facts about this but havent seen a word anywhere.
It seems rather odd that they would be reported missing and then reports about this case just seemed to have dropped off the radar.
It does tend to make one wonder.

I have been searching and searching news articles to see what is going on but I haven't been able to find out anything. It does seem as though the whole situation has dropped off the radar. I don't understand it. Are they still being searched for? I sure do hope so.

Yea, I have been looking also, as I stated earlier and nothing.
Not even an article of speculation as to what may have happened to these people. One would think that there would have been some kind of update on this situation. But like I said, theres been nothing at all.
If anyone hears anything please let us know, and I will do the same.

Re: Canada Couple Vanish on Way to Las Vegas
Rita Chretien was found alive after 49 days of being stranded after their van became mired in the mud. Hunters found her, but her husband had taken off on foot on March 22nd to find help and has not yet been found.
The Chretiens were stranded in a remote area in northern Nevada and Mr. Chretien took off with his GPS a few days after they became stuck in the mud to try to find help.
Searchers looked for him until the weather became too bad on Sunday and stopped searching in hopes that the weather would clear up Monday so they could resume their search.
Our prayers are with them both.
