I kind of figured as much, sadly enough to say.
Rita's husband had the right idea to go for help, but perhaps he should have left earlier than he had.
You must be prepared when traveling by car, truck, or horseback across the wilderness.
Not much has changed in the wilds of America, so if you travel, take some type of weapon with you.
There are a lot of hungry animals in the wilderness.
If you're on foot and in search of help in the wilderness, don't think you're safe because you have a cell phone or some type of gps system.
Take a big hunting knife with you or make a weapon out of a stick or whatever you can find before you travel too far.
I will still never forget the time when my wife, our three children and I went camping a few years ago...
We went hiking on our second day and it was to some waterfalls about 3.5 miles from camp.
You know I took my big hunting knife. Had it strapped to my belt, even though I was wearing shorts and a tank top.
The children found sticks to help them along the trails and eventually my wife and I found a couple too (my wife still has hers after all this time).
Needless to say, we came upon a few other hikers along our travels in the wilderness and they looked at me funny, like I was crazy for carrying a big hunting knife on my side.
It's better to be prepared even if something doesn't happen to you, because one day it might and you want to be ready for that day.
