I thought this was kind of cool. Biologists have just released thirty-six desert tortoises in the Las Vegas Desert with transmitters affixed to their shells so they can conduct an open-land study on them.
Desert tortoises are a protected species and so they hope to gain information about their movements and habits to help ensure their future.

This all comes from the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research. They have been providing veterinary services to diagnose and treat desert tortoises.
I am glad that they are doing this. I hate for any kind of animal to become extinct.
