Default Higher taxes for companies?

The gaming and mining leaders said to the legislators that they can not be singled out to pay a higher tax. They said they can not afford a tax increase or bail out the state government. They did say they would support a tax increase if all businesses would have to pay the same amount as well.

Small businesses would be effected by the tax increase as well. A small business owner said they only have eight employees and they would have to lay off some of them if the tax increase went in.

The president of the Nevada Resort Association said that most gaming companies have already laid off employees and reduced employee benefit plans. He also said some major resorts are on the verge of going bankrupt. He did however say, that the gaming industry would support a board based business tax that would apply to all the businesses.

The president of the Nevada mining association said they employee 12,000 people and they pay on the average of $14,000 a year in taxes on each one already.
