Moulin Rouge to be torn down?

The Moulin Rouge was built in 1955 and was the first racially integrated casino in Las Vegas.

5 months ago, as you can see by the picture, the Moulin Rouge was nearly destroyed and now the mayor of Las Vegas wants it torn down because he doesnt think anyone would be interested in restoring it as it now stands.

However, not everyone agrees. The Moulin Rouge Preservation Group says the city isn't working hard enough to save the historic site.

"There's a lot in this area that needs to be torn down. I don't know why the big hurry to start here," said Katherine Duncan, Moulin Rouge preservation Group.

One would think that the Moulin Rouge would be refurbished and made into a national landmark. But only time will tell the outcome of this situation.

With the economy the way it is in Las Vegas at this time, they may be better off tearing it down.

I would rather see a landmark restored so people will know what the old town use to look like. But the money involved for a re-build may be over their budget, unless they could find someone to put up the money for its rebuilding.

There have been several older Las Vegas hotel casinos torn down in the past decade that have been there since before Moulin Rouge, but those were located on the main strip so there was no question about the buying of their properties and rebuilding.

Perhaps it would make a good site for another museum or something else if they could find someone to buy it.
