Default The Lion Habitat at MGM closes.

The Lion Habitat at MGM was started in 1999 and as of Tuesday, it has been closed down and the glass encased habitat will be removed due to $160M renovations.

Now that the lions will no longer be a part of MGM, they will all retire with Keith Evans to an 8.5 acre ranch outside of Las Vegas where a total of 40 lions live.

It is said that these lions are kit and kin to Leo, MGM movies mascot.

That's cool to know, about the lions being kin to the original Leo. Thanks for the update IluvVegas.

It is sad that the lions have to retire from the MGM, but I bet they will live much happier out in the open as to being caged-in.

Yea, the lions will probably be much happier. I am just wondering if the compound will be open to visitors. Im going to have to look into that because I sure would like to see those lions.

I will let you know what I find out so that you all will be able to add it to your list of things to do when visiting Vegas. I hadnt seen them at MGM yet so sure hope they will be allowing visitors.

I just looked up the article where they mention where those lions are being moved to; The Cat House.

Yeah I know it's a ranch where other lions are being raised outside of Las Vegas, but I saw a couple other cat houses during my travels through Nevada and they didn't have the felion variety of cats.

The lions from MGM's lion habitat were suppose to be moved at the end of January 2012. I didn't see anything different in my online search today.

Of course, I didn't make an extensive online search. But if anything has changed it should've shown somewhere online.

Lol, other cat houses eh? I think Nevada is the only state where thats legal.

Anyway, getting back to the lions, thanks for looking for more information. I would think though that maybe one could see the lions at the ranch. I will try to find out if that is possible and let you all know.
