Default Unemployment Reached New High

For the month of September, unemployment rates remained the same statewide except for Las Vegas. The unemployment rate went up to fifteen percent which is a record.

As if thats not bad enough the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation beleives that there will be even more jobs lost in 2011. They don't predict things to get better until 2013.

Quote:
Tourism and construction, two industries that propelled growth from the 90s into the last decade, continued to bear the brunt of the jobless crisis, losing 1,600 and 1,500 jobs last month, respectively.

The only silver lining in DETR’s report was the statewide unemployment rate, which held steady at 14.4 percent. It marked the first time since January that the rate did not increase, the agency reported.
I had really thought that Las Vegas was doing better. I was suprised to learn about this. I do hope that things look up beofre 2013, thats a ways off yet.

Default Re: Unemployment Reached New High

I find this information rather surprising. I would have thought that Vegas would have been one place that the umemployment rate would have at least remained steady.

I think too that when the president made the comment about the conventions in Vegas, that that didnt help Vegas' economical condition at all. Just by losing all of those attendees, it would have caused conditions there to worsen.

Hopefully, like you said, it wont take untill 2013 for things to get better in Vegas.
