Default Wynn Vegas and its dealers fight the tip pooling battle.

At Wynn Vegas, dealers are expected to pool their tips and share them with the other dealers and their immediate supervisors.

Courts say that employers can make their employees pool their tips. But that the employers cant benefit directly by this action.

In lieu of giving the supervisors more money, Wynn Vegas is using the pooling of tips as a motivational tool.

But, that hinges on the law that says employers cant benefit directly from the pooling of tips.

My stand on tip pooling, from years of work in which I had to do so, is that it isnt fair to the people earning the tips.

If you have a few really personable and caring employees that get great tips because of their actions, why should they have to share them with their less caring counterparts?

Those are my thoughts too when it comes from tipping.

To give everyone a chance at the tip pool, I would have a rotation set in place;
where those who are not working and get tips from the pool, will have to get out there and do the work for the tips they get too.

I would set that up on a daily or bi-daily rotation, to include the bosses who sit back and collect on their employee's efforts.

Tips, or gratuity, are money earned for extra services given to the person helping you or others in your party.

I work for a business that pools tips on a weekly basis. It's averaged by this:

Total tip $ / Total number of hours worked by employees that week = $/hour.

It is fair as far as hours worked, however, it is NOT fair to those who don't pull their weight and just show up to work everyday like a zombie. I can see, though, how this will get the supervisors making sure those on their shifts are doing well. Whether they care enough is another story!

I always tip some on the bill I pay with a credit card - but for good service I always slip a cash tip also.

I have always wondered if that really works or if the cash then has to be turned in also.. I figure it would be easier to hold on to the cash if there is a tip included on the bill too..

Tipping is getting to be a science.

Can you share what you think is a good way for us to tip?
