Default President's Remarks Hurt Conventions?

Steve Wynn and Vegas city officials are criticizing remarks made by President Obama regarding corporations spending taxpayer dollars in Las Vegas.

Wynn said
Quote:
The president, in what amounted to a slip of the tongue, I imagine, said he doesn’t think the people who received benefits from the government should be going on junkets to expensive places or Las Vegas for wasteful spending … which stigmatized the convention business that could come to Las Vegas
Wynn said that the president's remarks has an effect on the Las Vegas economy even though he feels sure that the president didn't mean to stigmatize all the conventions and business meetings in Vegas, but just those trips by companies that receive federal funds.

You are right!! he should keep his mouth shut, no one would have paid much attention to it if he had just shut up..LOL I am sure this will not stop any conventions in Vegas.

Taxpayers should not ever be asked to pay for gambling trips, leisure trips and so on. That is all he meant by it. I think anyone with common sense got that. I don't think Vegas will be hurt by the remark.

In my opinion, I don't think what the President said is hurting a darn thing. I was just doing a follow up on the list of conventions in Vegas.

It doesn't look like they are going to be hurting at all. Looking at the calendar of events for conventions, it appears to be booked almost every day. There are so many of them it is crazy. A lot more then my state has probably.

I'd rather see them blow this money for conventions rather than this BS

JPMorgan, receipients of $25 Billion in bailout funds, are dropping $120 Million on two new private jets (in addition to the FOUR private jets for the executives already in the fleet) as well as an additional $18 million for more hanger space (with a rooftop garden!) to house these jets

What gets me is the fact that when GM's execs went before congress, they flew out to DC via their company jets. Congress called them out on it, and wouldn't listen to them until they drove back out there in Hybrids...go figure.

I think Steve just made a ruckus to boost business.

Whenever a big name makes a stink about something, it gets noticed.

The simple form of free publicity.
