Default Tea Party Being Sued by The Venetian

The Venetian Casino Resort in Las Vegas is suing the Tea Party Nation for a rather large unpaid bill. The bill is more than $600,000!

Apparently the Tea Party reserved 1,637 room nights at the Palazzo hotel last summer for a convention. The agreement was they pay the hotel $579,148 if they cancelled. They cancelled two weeks prior to the event.

So the Venetian wants the Tea Party to pay the bill owed plus $87,996 in interest accumulated since.

Quote:
The Venetian's lawyers claim the Tea Party Nation "has refused, and continues to refuse, to make payment," despite being contacted numerous times, LA Weekly reported.

Tea Party Nation Founder Judson Phillips told Las Vegas Review Journal that hasn't seen the lawsuit yet.
I can understand the Venetian wanting that money because once those rooms were reserved they couldn't give them to anyone else. So they lost out big time I am sure.

Yes they would have lost serious bucks on that deal. I wonder why the Tea Party cancelled their reservations. Either way it don't matter when you enter into a deal like that you have to be willing to uphold your end of the deal.

The Palazzo ain't no rinky dink place either, so I hope that the Tea party is made to pay along with interest. What they didn wasn't right.

Well the way I see this, is that both parties, the Venetian and Tea Party Nation, have signed a contract of some sort.

In the contract it was most likely stated that the Tea Party Nation was to pay this large sum if they were to cancel...

The Tea Party Nation did cancel and now they have a bill to pay. But the confusing part is, why has the Venetian not filed a law suit?

My guess is that the Venetian may not have made a proper contract. Perhaps it was a phone contract and nobody was there to sign papers (something a fax system would cure).

I made an online search and see nothing has changed since July 22nd 2011.

They may well have settled out of court with this issue.

I wonder what happened with the Tea Party?

Does anyone have something new to add to this one?

Please remember when you make a contract with someone, either over the phone or in person, be sure to read the part where you'll have to pay "x" amount if you don't stick to the contract.

There are documents filed in the Clark County District Court to this effect and it also includes 18% interest on the bill in question.

I will try to find out more information for you all and let you know if and when this has been settled.

Thanks for the update about the tea party being sued by the Venetian, IluvVegas.

I would like to know what happened with that one. If they settled out of court, there may not be much to look up.
