Anyone know poker history?

I love learning the history behind games we play today. Often times the history is more intresting then the game itself.

I love to play poker, I have been playing it for quite a while now and of course I am always improving in the game. I have alot of work yet to go but I will get there.

My question here is.....Does anyone know how poker came about. I would love to learn the history behind this wonderful game. I know that the game has been around for many, many years. Though I would like to know just how long, how it got started and so on.

Many times I have wanted to sit down and research it online or in a library, but it seems that everyday life just keeps getting in the way of me doing this.

Every game that I like to play, I try to learn the history about it. This way when I play with friends we can all discuss the game with better knowledge about it.

It may sound boring to everyone here, but when I get together with friends to play any kind of game, we all like to talk about the game and of course other things as well.
