Default Lion Attack at MGM Habitat

Wow, did you guys hear that a trainer was attacked by a lion at the Lion Habitat at MGM Grand? I guess a video of it was leaked to YouTube and television.

Can you imagine that! I would have peed my pants!!!

Do you think that maybe the lion was playing? I don't know but it seems to me if the lion really wanted a bite- he would have gotten a good one!

The trainer's name has not been made public. MGM Resorts spokeswoman Yvette Monet told the Associated Press he was treated and released from a Las Vegas hospital. In the video, he does not appear seriously injured.
I am certainly glad that the guy seems to be okay and that the lion is as well. Playing or not he got a little rough lol!

I'm thinking the lion wanted to play or wrestle with the trainer.

My cat, although just a house cat, will play a bit rough with me than he will my wife.

Sometimes my cat will chase me down and jump on my leg so I can wrestle or get rough with him.
My cat won't do it to hurt me, he's just showing me he loves me and wants to play.

I think it's a guy thing with the male cats. If they're comfortable around you they want to wrestle and play rough.

Another thought; the cat knows who the male leader is in a house or dwelling and he wants to wrestle or play rough to see who's toughest (in a playful way).

You are right, it does seem like a play thing with that lion and I was even more convinced of that when the other lion came over and playfully accosted the male lion. Had it been an attack, the other lion would have gone for the trainer too.

Anyway that is usually the case when one big cat attacks, the others jump in to help.

I agree. Like I said above, to me it looks like he was playing. He was rough but I don't think he could play otherwise, he's pretty big. If he wanted to hurt the trainer there is no doubt that he had the opportunity.

I really believe that this was all just an act of playfullness, and hopefully there won't be any action taken against the lion for his actions.

Lets face the truth here though, the trainer was in the enclosure with the lion, the trainer knows that the animal is wild and what it is capable of, so he takes his chances.

I am glad that he managed to get away from the lion before he was seriously injured or even killed, but still when your that close to a wild animal there is always a certain amount of risk involved.

At least the trainer is mending and will be alright, that is an important fact. Hopefully he will not hold any grudges against the lion for the incident.

Even if he does, I believe the lion has the law of nature (and gravity??) on his side.

As a version of the old saying goes, if you're going to play with wild animals, you run the risk of getting bitten, swiped, or made into a tasty snack.

I think I'd rather play with fire!

Yeah I think I would much rather play with fire than a wild animal such as a lion. I would at least have a much better survival chance.

Don't get me started on playing with fire...

I'm sure y'all were taking about the "flame" of fire or burning things. All young boys go through a facination with fire and like to play with it.

When boys get older, grow into men, they play with fire a different way; by having two or more girlfriends at the same time...I think most of you know what I mean.

Anyways, it's good to know the trainer is healing. I don't think he should or will hold a grudge with the lion after he looks at the video a few times.
