Post Oakland A's new home - Las Vegas?

So far, these are just rumors, but the facts are that the Oakland A's have no intentions of staying in California. Talk about a boost for Vegas' economy...maybe this is this addition they need to pull out of their slump?

Not only would this mean increased tax revenue, but it'd also bring more people into the casinos as well...

Yes, I can see it now; The Las Vegas A's.

Or for short; the LVA's.
That's not too bad of a name.

People would have to remember to save all of their grandstand money for use in the casinos though.

vegas is a tough sell for owners. big fan base issues. a pro team would sell out since a ballgame is always a nice thing to do while on vacation plus there will be plenty of comp tickets to go around. the problem is a true fan base and that has kept pro sports out of vegas all this time....

I vote the Las Vegas Anonymous

The stadium could have a huge slot machine in the back and every home run coins slide down into the trey (a la the Brewers slide)

The stadium should be shaped like a blackjack table and instead of the 7th inning stretch - KENO!

I think everyone learned that lesson when Pete Rose was banned from baseball in 1989 and will never get into the hall of fame...a place that he deserves to be in...

You would think so, but just look at the steriod crap, when one gets caught breaking the rules, the others just don't seem to think it can happen to them. and just my two cents here, i think rose should be in the hall, no if ands or butts, betting on his team is nothing compared to what some others have done!

as an athlete i must comment on this subject. the whole steroid hysteria is media fueled and driven. steroids is not cheating. steroids are nothing new. they have been in baseball for 30+ years and are still going strong. how do you think nolan ryan pitched 20+ years throwing 95mph? the nfl would close operations tonight if they really banned steroids. boxing? holyfield looks better now than he did 20 years ago. lol. as a hockey players we lived on ephedrine and clenbuterol. they are now banned since the media has deemed them dangerous to our health but still a staple of our training. when i say everyone is doing it i mean pretty much everyone. gambling will only be a problem if the media wants it to be. no athlete is going to throw a game for money. the salaries are too good these days. point shaving in basketball is always going to be common since you can still win the game but it cannot happen in baseball. i also agree that rose should be in the hall. he pissed off the wrong people plain and simple. sports are full of womanizers, rapists, bullies, drunks, drug abusers and low lifes. no more or less than any other job i might add. there is no "moral" reason he shouldnt be in.....

Nice post and thanks for your insight to the sports industry. My oldest son is a huge wrestling fan, and is training at a school to try and break into the business. now its not a sport per say, but it is a very physical job, and with all the negative press in the pass couple of years of people dieing of steroids and "killing themsleves or others" , if you have any insight into this profession, i would love to hear it.

On the subject of player misconduct off the field, does anyone remember back on June 23, 2006 when Phillies pitcher Brett Myers was arrested in Boston after hitting his wife out in public?

http://www.boston.com/sports/basebal...olence_charge/

What gets me is this:

Quote:
Myers was arguing with his wife shortly after midnight at the corner of Boylston and Dalton streets, Procopio said. The woman and two witnesses told police the 25-year-old pitcher hit her. One witness told investigators Myers also pulled her hair.

...

Police responded to a 911 call and found Myers' wife crying and with a swollen face, Procopio said. Officers found Myers nearby and arrested him. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Myers was booked by Boston police, and his wife posted his $200 bail. Procopio did not know how long Myers was in jail.

Let's face it....she's got a swollen face and two witnesses saw him hitting her. So obviously, he did hit his wife....in the face. ....and he only has a $200 bail?!?!? Bail, not bond. Bond is 10% of what your bail is......

But yet.....Fast forward to October 5th: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseb...ers-wife_x.htm

The charges against him were dropped. Why? Because his wife didn't want to press charges. What the....who cares. It was an assault, and he broke the law. He should be charged and tried and prosecuted accordingly.

Not only that, but c'mon..no fines, no suspensions, nothing.

If this was some ordinary working Joe, he'd still be in jail. It seems there's no accountability from sports organizations for their players' actions off the field or court.
