Default Virgin Airlines celebrates 10 years of Vegas flights

Quote:
Sir Richard Branson and Dita Von Teese were at McCarran Airport on Tuesday celebrating 10 years of Virgin Flights to Las Vegas.
I wonder how many flights to Vegas Virgin Airlines has made in those 10 years? It would be interesting to know.

I made a quick query about Virgin Atlantic Airlines and noticed they mention some 148 nonstop flights to Vegas each week.

I did some figuring, using 145 flights a week as a base number, and it comes out to over 75,000 flights for Virgin Airlines during those 10 years.

I know that may not be acurate, less a thousand or so flights, but that's a lot of air-miles going to Las Vegas for one small airline company.

My wife and I checked out how we would save with Virgin when they were at our airport (for a couple years).
They would've saved us money on the flight over and back, but everything was priced for the flight; baggage, meals, and a couple other things they mentioned that I forgot about.
We realized we would still save around $50 or more for using Virgin Airlines, but the flight times were only two or three days a week and at certain times.

Basically, before they pulled out of our airport, we would have to match our schedules to Virgin Airlines' schedules to take a trip to Las Vegas.
That's nearly impossible to do when you have a group of people from all over the US meeting in Vegas on the same day.
You have to choose an airline that will get you there at about the same time as everybody else.

Virgin Airlines may grow and come back to our airport, but I don't see it happening in the near future at this time with the economy as it is these days.

Holy cow! Thats a lot of flights!

Cost wise, it doesn't seem to have been a whole lot cheaper for your trips out to Las Vegas. And as you said, matching up schedules would have been a real pain in the booty to try and accomplish.

Congrats to them though for the ten years and so many flights!
