Default Casinos Say No to Raising Taxes

Casinos and others in the gaming industry in the state of Nevada have said no to raising the taxes in order to balance the state budget. They do not wish to pay higher taxes or fees. (Can't say I blame them) The thing is, the Democrats had hoped this would allow them to avoid deep cuts on social services and education.

There are lots of jobs cuts that are going to happen, they say it is unavoidable.

Quote:
The Nevada Resort Association issued a statement Thursday night saying it could not "reach consensus among its statewide membership" to support the Democratic proposal. The group, which represents the state's largest casinos, cited a $6.7 billion net loss in fiscal year 2009 and nearly 34,500 in layoffs during the same period.

"We gave blood before and have given blood time after time," said Billy Vassiliadis, a lobbyist for the association, referring to tax and fee hikes the industry has been subject to since 2003, when the gross receipts tax rate rose to 6.75 percent.
Some lawmakers say this isn't over though. They say there will be higher taxes and or fees in the near future.

My worry is, the casinos have been hit pretty hard over the past couple of years because of the economy. What will this mean for them? And then what will it mean for those of us who go there? Because it always trickles down to the little people!

I wonder if the lawmakers ever think these plans through? They could tack on more taxes but then what would that do to the casinos?

It would probably end up with more job loses and possibly even some casinos going under because they cant "tread water" in these troubled times.

Maybe the lawmakers ought to consider some spending cuts instead of taxing everyone and everything to death. They dont pay taxes, so it doesnt effect them at all.

Yipy,I say.If politicians where so worried about the problem they would donate part of thier salary to it.They only make about twice or better the money that we average people make. They can afford it better than most of us can.

If some of the people that make and unreal amout of money should have to give to help the economy out more than those of us whom do not have it to give up.When will poloticians get it,that they can't get money that we don't have.
