If you're a beginner at BJ and really want to play, simply go into any gift shop and get one of those laminated strategy cards. They're only a few bucks (or less?) and will tell you exactly when to hit/stand/double/split/etc. based on what your hand is and what upcard the dealer is showing. They are 100% legal and not frowned upon when using them at a table.

Thanks for the great advice on the strategy cards. That would really come in handy if I decided to try Blackjack because I would never, otherwise remember when to hit, or stand.

Ive tried Blackjack on the machines but never as a table game. And dont really think I would care to either. Its just not a game that has any appeal for me.

The easiest table game to beat in blackjack. All you have to do is learn to count cards and implement it properly. Not the easiest thing in the world, but not as hard as most people believe and certainly not as hard as learning to win at poker.

Counting cards is illegal if you get caught.
It's like speeding on the highway is illegal, but people do it until they get caught, and even after they get caught they go and do it again.

If a casino finds out you are counting cards then they can throw you out and ban you.
If you can count cards in a systematic way where you won't get caught; like lose a few in a row after winning a few higher wins, then you may get away with it.

Winbig, he posted the card machines earlier in this thread, would know more about blackjack and how the counting cards thing works.
