How can I get into senior housing?

Hi friends,

A few years ago I tried to apply to get into a senior citizens apartment complex, but was told that I had to be 65 to apply. So I waited. then when I became age eligible and went to re-apply, I was informed that there was a 10 year waiting list! It's like a Catch -22. How does one get into senior housing under those circumstances?
