The FBI has just released the 2009 crime rate report for the Las Vegas area for 2009. I am glad to see that things have improved in some areas but in others things have gotten worse then the previous year. I imagine some of it has to do with the bad economy, especially in the Las Vegas area.
The numbers still appear to be staggering but you have to take into account the size of the city and the outlying areas and the amount of people who live there and visit there throughout the year.
Quote:
Henderson and North Las Vegas saw increases in robberies, according to the FBI. In Henderson, robberies increased 21.2 percent, from 212 robberies in 2008 to 257 in 2009.
Robberies in North Las Vegas increased 5.6 percent, from 554 robberies in 2008 to 587 in 2009.
Robberies in Las Vegas decreased 8.7 percent, from 4,932 robberies in 2008 to 4,495 in 2009.
“It’s a big puzzle and unfortunately, it’s going to get bigger. I think over the next couple of years, and at the same time it’s doing that, were going to have less (officers) to put the pieces together,“ said Bedwell.

Categories that were improved in 2009 over 2008 are murder, rape and car theft.
Those all dropped in 2009 compared to 2008.
