Military base.
Does anyone know where the military base is located in Las Vegas?
My son in law had a choice to go to Las Vegas or Virginia Beach.
I am sure now that he has chosen Virginia Beach but am curious as to where the Vegas base is.
I know that it would be nice for them to go to the casinos there but we were all concerned about conditions and raising the little ones out there so far away from the family.
Thank you in advance for any input you may have. I really do appreciate it.
And god bless our service men and women. Also all of those who have served past and present. I also wish to extend special thanks to those men and women who are civilian contractors as the too have given up time with their families to help our servicemen and their country.

Re: Military base.
Hi,
My son is stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Vegas and he absolutely loves it. It's about a 10 minute ride from the base to the strip, and because he is in the 'security" field of the Air Force he gets to run the security for alot of Boxing matches, and Arena Events in Vegas. The weather is hot, but not humid, the homes are cheap, he just bought a home with his girl, was listed at 280,000 last year, they got it for 130,000 this year. The base at Nellis is huge, and has everything you could want. I know nothing about V beach, but it is probably just as nice, and i am sure your son will be fine at either.

Re: Military base.
My son was stationed in Salt Lake for about a year, also in the Air Force.
He came down to visit us in Vegas a few months ago. He had a great time and so did we while he was there.
Now my son in Japan for a few years. I don't think he likes change too much, but he he will get use to it.
That was a great deal to get a home for less than half the actual cost.
I bet your son, Chipsahoy, really likes going to the different events, even if it is for security reasons.

Re: Military base.
Vegasluvsme,
I hate to hear that your son got sent to Japan, god thats so far away, it scares me. I hope you don't have to wait 4 long years to see him again? I will keep him in my thoughts always.
My son loves Vegas, and he loves working the events, and the house is great and was a great deal. But i have a funny story to tell. lol
Talk about getting to see all the events and stars...etc..He called me Tuesday night and told me that his Superiors called him and told him to report to their office at 11 am the next morning, but if was his day off, so he says, "but Sir, i am off tomorrow," his commander says, not anymore, top secret, can't tell you anything, just be here at 11am. So he does so checking with others and finds out that only 6 of them were being called in to the office the next morning, and it was something special, and"MARINE 1" was at their base in a hanger! Then he finds out that President Obama was going to be in Vegas on Wednesday, the next day. So he calls me all excited and tells me, MA, I think i am going to get to meet the President tomorrow, and then tells me this whole story. So we waited all day wednesday to hear from him , to find out what happended and if he either, meet the president, or maybe had to do security for him while he was in Vegas.
He never called.??
SO, i called him today, and he was all depressed, and said, "I got to sit in a truck all day and look at Marine 1", thats it, nothing else, didn't see the President, and if he had farted, he wouldn't of even got a whiff! LOLLLLL
Poor Branden, he makes me laugh, but i know he was really excited about this "Top Secret" event he was going to be involved in. lolllll

Re: Military base.
That was pretty cool that he was assigned a top-secret job.
My son chose to be in Japan. He always wanted to go there, and now he is. I think it was that or get assigned a job he wouldn't have liked.
Since he is a mechanic, he may be able to take a job at nearly any base where they need one.
He mentioned he will be stationed over there for at least two years, with a leave about every six months or a year, to go to the states for a week or so.
My son mentioned he will stop by here with a couple of his Air Force friends to get a taste of some real Southern cooking, fried okra and with some other vittles.

Okra is great when it's battered and fried. It goes with just about any southern cooked meal.
What is good about okra down here, it will grow all the way up to November at times.
I've seen it in the garden with snow on the ground too. (The few that we didn't get to)

Well, okra grows almost like corn and grows low to the ground.
It is green. Has a bunch of small seeds in its middle and is hard to the touch when you pick it.
There are several ways for it to be cooked, and okra is best cooked since it is so hard.
I'm not much of an expert with okra, I just eat it when the wife cooks it.
I don't like the boiled version of okra, just the fried kind.
