Sister in Vegas
My sister is in Vegas now. I can't wait till she gets back. She is going to take some pictures for me. And of course, bring back a coffee mug for me. I collect them from places I haven't been yet.
She stayed at the Circus Circus hotel. I am very excited to hear her story about the place when she returns.
Until I get over my fear of flying (probably never) I will just have to live through this site and other people's experiences.

Re: Sister in Vegas
I still have a moderate fear of flying, but I know the aircraft has several visual checks and many pre-flight checks before departure, so that puts me at ease.
What I like to see is the pilot going out to make a pre-flight visual check.
I don't know if this done very often, as I don't keep an eye on my flight the whole time before boarding, but it gives me a better since of safety when I see the pilot is concerned for the air-crafts condition.
Looking out the window during a bumpy rides due to turbulence will also keep me relaxed. Just to see what is going on out there helps.
Others may find it nauseating to look out the window and closing the eyes may help.
I may never get over the fear of flying, but it doesn't help my fears if I never go on a flight. The more I go flying, the more relaxed I get.
So, videoslots, get on a flight to Vegas when you get the chance. Bring a book to read or a music player to listen to your favorite music, or you could even just sleep on the flight over. Just relax and enjoy your time in the air, it's really not that bad after you've been up a few times.

Re: Sister in Vegas
I was terrified the first time I got on a plane. I had to think this way, if it is my time to go, i will go whether I am in a plane or on the ground. Flying is the safest way to travel. Do what I did take a nerve pill and chill LOL. Now I love flying!!

Re: Sister in Vegas
Well she came back, and she didn't really care for it. The last time she went, she went with a friend and had a blast. This time she went with her boyfriend and they only stayed one night there, and by the time they got there it was late.
She went for 2 weeks and the trip only allotted for 1 night in Vegas. The rest of the trip was the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and even further out West. She had a great trip, the only thing was when they got there, the first stop was Vegas, and I think she was just too tired to enjoy it.
She stayed at Circus Circus, and she said by the time they got there some of the restaurants were closed and the one buffet that was opened, some customer told them to go somewhere else, the food was terrible.
I think if she would have stayed there longer, she would have had a lot more fun there. She really didn't have the time to enjoy any of the sights.

Re: Sister in Vegas
If she would have stayed further up towards the center of the strip, there are several 24 hour places to eat.
The Circus Circus is pretty far from most of the main strip action and may be a good place to stay, but I don't know too much about it since I haven't been there yet.
You need at least a two day stay in Vegas to have a relaxing fun time.
I would need at least three days of stay myself.
If you are a patron who visits Vegas often, then a one day stay may not be too bad.
Get in, gamble away, and then leave the next day.
I'm thinking 1819 may have done this a few times.

i see from your profile that you drove a truck. you must have seen some horror on the highways over the years. im sure you know you are more likely to be killed on your way to the airport. dont sweat flying. i have been on every bucket of bolts you can imagine. jumbo jets to puddle jumpers. you should have seen the rat traps i flew on when i was in the minors. those were some scary times. i have a friend that survived the st louis crash a few years back. the plane hit another plane on the runway. i always like to fly with him since i doubt he'll ever get into TWO plane crashes. lol. as ive posted in another thread dont let a fear of flying deter you from anything this country has to offer. with the thousands upon thousands of flights everday if there was one plane crash a day it would still be the safest form of travel....

Re: Sister in Vegas
I've seen my share of horrors on the highways, and saved many lives by;
using my CB radio, avoiding drivers who make mistakes, and slowing/braking for drivers who made irratic moves on the road or by not paying attention while on their cell phones.
And I've gotten out of my truck several times to help those who have just had an accident.
I've seen some bloody deaths in many accidents.
But the one that hit home the hardest was when I saw a big rig nearly take out a school bus full of young children.
The bus flipped on its side and the truck went right in front of me and flipped on its side right beside a mobile home.
No one was seriously injured, thank God.
I had thought about that accident quite often.
I was right behind the bus for about a half mile, and a little voice told me to back off and let it get ahead of me.
Thirty seconds later a big truck comes around a corner, and the accident took place.
As for my air flights, I put the fear of flying to the back of my mind, by conversing with my wife, reading a book, or listening to the local radio station.
I just relax during the flight, and the fears go away.
