Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
Airfare costs are going up with every airline, everywhere. Thats mostly because of the high cost of fuel. That will probably only get worse as summertime approaches. Fuel always goes up in the warmer months because the demand is higher.
One good thing is that more airlines fly to Las Vegas than ever before. That makes the airlines have to be competitive for your business.
Airlines come out with their deals a month or two ahead of time so book early if you can.
Also, sign up for real-time airfare deal alerts so that you know you can get the best price.
The cheapest days to fly no matter what time of the year are when the fewest people are flying. Thats typically on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you can go on those days you will save.
Don't be fooled by some of the cheaper airlines. They might have the best ticket price but often they have a lot of hidden fees that will get ya.

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
I read a report about why the fuel costs have gone up so high and it's because there are a lot of new investors in the oil market and they're making bad decisions.
I read an article by Charles Wallace, daily finance, found on the msn money site, under investing, and he mentions this...
Quote:
|
Dan Dicker, who has spent nearly three decades in the oil market, has a profoundly disturbing explanation of why the price of oil, and the gasoline that comes from the crude product, has risen so dramatically in recent months. It turns out, Dicker says, that the price has nothing to do with supply and demand for oil. It's the financial market for oil, filled with both professional speculators and amateur investors betting on poorly understood oil exchange-traded funds, who have ratcheted up the price of gas to such sky high levels.
|
Read the whole article by Charles Wallace and you'll begin to understand why gas prices are so high.
So, if you think flying prices have gone up because of fuel prices, you are right.
But the fuel prices have risen because of bad judgement calls by new investors.

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
The main reason that gas prices have risen is in a word "Libya".
Then you do have the fact that supply does outdo demand right now but there are investors that are hoarding oil while waiting on economic recovery which isnt going to help us recover any faster, in fact, it may hurt our economic recovery in the long run.
Some are saying that gas prices will even out now and then start dropping, while others are saying that they will keep spiraling upward.
As far as a Vegas trip is concerned, try Am Trak and compare prices between the train, flying and driving. I know that when I get the urge to see Vegas again, price wont matter.

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
I love how what we pay for gas is based on assumptions and predictions and so on. It's ridiculous. It shouldn't be this way. I am so sick and tired of paying a fortune for gas. It shouldn't cost half of what it does.

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
I know that my old man's parents normally go to Vegas at least twice a year though they are not sure if this year that is going to happen because not only has the ticket prices increased but so has just about everything else including hotels, shows, dinners and etc...
Pretty soon people are gonna have to be millionaires just to get back and forth to work!!!!

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
I really feel for the people who work part-time because typically when you work part-time you still work four to five days a week. You only get half days though like four to five hours. So you still have to travel the same distance just as many days as those who work full-time but only make half the money. That makes it really hard. You still use the gas but don't make much money.

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
Right now, in our area, the gas prices are bouncing around like a rubber ball.
Two days ago, at the Loading Zone near us, gas had dropped from over $4 a gallon down to $3.90 but we werent able to take advantage of this as there were long lines on both sides of the pumps.
We will be going to Pittsburgh, so I will let you all know what their gas prices are like as it becomes obvious that prices fluctuate quite a bit according to state and area.

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
Gas just jumped ten cents where I live. One gas station has it at $4.03 per gallon and the other one has it at $4.13. It stinks for sure!
Can anyone remember what was the highest it has been over the past few years? I can't remember but it seems like we are getting close to it!

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
Today we were in Pittsburgh Pa, only about 75 miles from our house and gas there was $3.79 a gallon. Makes you wonder why it is so much higher in some places as opposed to others.
My curiosity is really up as to why there is as much as a 35 cent if not more difference in the prices according to location or states or even different towns and counties within a state. Seems to me that gas should be the same price everywhere.

Re: Airfare Costs to Las Vegas
At the end of July my old man's parents are once again returning to Las Vegas for another vacation.
His Mom was telling me about it and I guess it is going to cost them around $600.00 just in airfare!!!
Seriously I don't know how anyone could afford prices like that. I mean seriously that is enough money to feed a family for months, buy a cheap used car, pay a bill or two and I am sure that you get the picture.
Now on the other hand I do want to visit Vegas and most likely if I had that kind of money I would mostly pay it just to be able to say that "Yes I've bene there".
I hope they enjoy it when they do go, because the ways things are headed right now before the end of the year prices of everything may be doubled what they are right now.
