Airport Security
I have never flown before and I have always swore that I never would. I just dont like the idea of being up off the planet, ( in other words I dont like heights). Though because my trip to Las Vegas was postponed, I may have to bite the bullet and board a plane.
If I do have to take a flight does anyone have any suggestions for me reguarding airport security? I have never been in an airport so I dont know what I am going to be doing or what I will need to do.
I know that after 9-11 there were alot of security rules put into place and so on, and I would rather have a heads up as to what I am going to need to do to get to the flight on time.
This is of course if I can talk myself into even getting on a plane. I would still perfer to just drive there, though that may not happen.
I live about an hour from the airport, so what time should I leave my home to make sure I catch my flight with out any problems.
Anything anyone can tell me about taking a flight sure would be appreciated. I am still not sure I will be able to do it, but maybe if I had more information not only about the security I will have to go through, but the actual flight itself might help douse a few of the fears.
Thanks in advance everyone for all of your help!!!

Re: Airport Security
Flying is fun! I will tell you if you are afraid do not get a window seat..LOL As far as security, you need to get small bottles of things for traveling and put them in a zip lock bag. Make sure you don;t have a knife or nail file in your purse. You can call the airlines and they will tell you what you can and can;'t have with you for security.
If you live an hour from airport, leave at least 3 hours ahead of time. They like for you to be there and checked in 2 hours before time for flight to take off. So take a book or something to keep you busy till take off. Also take you a nerve pill before boarding..LOL it helps and maybe you can nap while in flight. It is not as bad as you think it is. You do not evenknow you are moving once it takes off.
Flying is the only way to go if it is very far and a whole lot safer!!

Re: Airport Security
I am a guy so may be a little easier for me
I take nothing but clothes - all the little bitty bottles of stuff I buy there and leave there.
Airport security isn't bad but you never know what "heighten" security alert they are on and what you can and can not take.
So I leave it all at home.
Definitely bring a book, Ipod, something cause you do need to get there early. Also nothing is free anymore so you will need some cash if you want a drink or something on the flight.
Lastly, if the bars are open - no need for nerve pill.

It was on the other side of the airport.
If you stop in one of the pubs at an airport, be sure it's close to your next gate before you start drinking.
It does get confusing when you've had a few drinks under your belt and your looking around for your gate number in the wrong area.

Re: Airport Security
Also, watch how much you have to drink before you go to your gate, as well. They say it's for your own safety to NOT let you on if you've been drinking "a lot," but yet they'll serve you $5+ 'drinks' till you're blue in the face once you're on the flight....

Bahh! I say.
They're just jealous you didn't buy all the booze on their plane.
I also say, drink as much as you like before you fly, just don't drink too much that you'll get obnoxious or stagger onto the plane.
You may not be welcomed in such a drunken state.

Re: Airport Security
I have never been much of a drinker, though I already had plans to belt down a few before I attempted my first flight.
Do drinks on the plane really cost that much??? Wow. I guess maybe I will need to make plans on bringing along more cash then,LOL.
I just dont know if I can handle being on a plane. I have people telling me to charter a flight in a small plane to see if I can handle that and if I can I will be alright on an acutal plane, while others recommend sleeping tablets to knock myself out, and of course there is the whole get a few drinks in you prior to boarding.
Though I dont know which recommendation I should take. As for a window seat that will never happen for me. I just couldnt bare looking out and realizing that I was that high up. I wouldnt panic, but I would most likely kill over from a heart attack or something.
At least now I know what time I will need to leave my home, in case I am actually forced to fly to vegas. Though I still am holding on to hopes that I will be able to just drive there. I think that I would still prefer that to flying there.

Re: Airport Security
Don't knock yourself out to much. Don't you know how hard it is for someone to get up during flight to go potty and have to crawl over someone passed out. lol

Re: Airport Security
Well I dont think that I personally would allow myself to get completely drunk. Though I would drink just enough to make sure that if the plane begins to fall out of the sky I wont be feeling much. ROFL. That is if I ever get the nerve to get onto a plane. lol

Re: Airport Security
Good going allygovols. (That's cute about crawling over a drunk person )
That's also a good thought queen of hearts.
Drink enough to where you don't feel anything and don't care. LOL
If there were any survivors, I think it would be the drunk person who didn't care where they were flying to.
