Default Flooding in Las Vegas

I guess when I think about Las Vegas I think about the desert. I certainly don't think about them getting flooded but thats exactly whats happening now.

Clark County officials have declared an emergency as roads are flooded out.

Some are dealing with power outages as well.

Quote:
A flash flood watch continues through Wednesday afternoon for portions of northwest Arizona, California and southern Nevada, including the Las Vegas Valley and Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the weather service said.

Rain is expected to become more scattered during the day today. However, more rain, locally heavy at times, is expected tonight and Wednesday, forecasters said.

The rain will cause ponding of water in low lying areas as well as rapidly flowing water in normally dry washes, they said. Flows of water and mud or debris might occur over area roads, they said. Travelers, campers and residents should be aware of the potential for flash flooding, they said.
I know first-hand just how powerful water really is. I live literally just about fifteen feet or so from a creek and a football field away from the river. We've been flooded I don't know how many times. That water rises so fast it's just unreal.

I've been watching the weather channel about the flooding going on in California, Arizona and Nevada.

The front that's coming off the ocean is dragging a lot of moisture with it and the rain may go on for the next couple days.

I hope all the desert dwellers are prepared for flash flooding.

I just saw yesterday evening where it is raining in the desert out there and that there will be more rain than they would get in a 6 month period.

Hopefully everyone out there has evacuation plans so that if they do have flash flooding they will have somewhere safe to go.

This just reminded me of the tunnel people in Las vegas. Someone had posted about them. What in the world are they gonna do! They live in those tunnels that are designed for water. I am sure they are probably already flooded with water! Thats aweful. Some of the pictures that I saw show that those people really do make homes in there. They have some furinture and everything. Their whole lives!

I also started thinking of those who live in the tunnels while reading this.

Places like this aren't prepared to deal with such weather, because it is such a rariety.

I hope that those who are living in the tunnels were able to get out of there before this flooding started and managed to find safety some where.

I guess I am thankful I didn't wasn't in Vegas for all of this. I want to go there of course, though I think I would rather wait til it wasn't flooded or having other problems with mother nature.

I keep hearing and reading that we are all supposed to have some really bad weather is winter and it is so far proving to be true and we are just at the beginning of it all.
