Default Worst Travel Experience's

I am trying to prepare myself for anything that might happen on my trip to Las Vegas.

What kind of experiences have you had on your trips both to and from the gambling capital in the world?

I have a horrible feeling that instead of driving there, I am going to be forced to board an airplane. This is something that I am dreading a great deal.

If I am going to pass on, Id rather not have to fall thousands of feet out of the air to do it,LOL. Yes that is my worst fear.

Any way to get off that depressing subject, I was just hoping that everyone could tell me some of your worst travel experiences so that I might be able to prepare myself for the same situation.

I am not saying that I am going to have a horrible travel experience going to Vegas, but then again you just never know and I would like to be as prepared as humanly possible for just about anything.

Thanks everyone!!!

I have never been as far as Las Vegas but I have had a bad traveling experience. My husband and I went to Texarkana, Texas about eight years ago with my brother-in-law and his wife. We drove there and I will tell you what, I am deathly terrified of flying but I had been wishing that I was on an airplane lol! It took us almost twenty-two hours to get there. It should have only taken us eighteen. My brother-in-law insisted that he was doing the driving. For a long part of the trip the speed limit was 75 mph. He was lucky to hit 50. It was a six lane highway and people were passing us up on both sides! I didn't think we would ever get there. And then, on the way home he wrecked us. We were fine but it was just aweful.

Note to self: Not going to Vegas with Brother-in-law driving rofl!

That is an aweful experience. You should have grown a pair (no pun intended) and kicked his butt to the back seat after an hour of 50/55 mph.

Going that slow on the highway is an accident waiting to happen. Take it from me, once an experienced on the road professional truck driver of over 10 years with no accidents, you should be going no less than 10 mph under the posted speed to be on the safe side.

Most cars will go from 5 to 10 mph over the posted speed and trucks will generally go the speed limit and up to 10 mph over with the faster privately owned rigs.

Now, for the general question from vegasrocks...

I have flown to Las Vegas at least a half dozen times now, without too many problems.
The only thing I didn't like was the waiting at one terminal or the other, coming and going.

If the flight crew for either flights (coming or going) have to take their manditory break, you can wait or be on hold for an hour or more at times.
Or if there's a storm on one end or the other, that will bring on delays too.

Other than that, I like flying to Vegas (especially if we stop off in Denver for a drink in one of their pubs ).
If you're flying in from the northern part of the city, going over the Rockies can get bumpy at times, but that is normal during certain parts of the day due to up and down drafts in the mountains.

And during stormy weather on the way over, the planes usually fly high enough to miss the storms.

Once you've gone over to and back from Las Vegas on a plane several times, that generally how most flights will be like.

Well I have flown overseas to Barcalona, London, Amsterdam....and of course to Vegas quite a few times.

We've had no real issue going to vegas. crowded planes are normal, storm delays are too....since we live on the east coast, coming home is always a challenge caused by storms.

Going to Barcalona and back was a nightmare, esp. coming back....as we missed our connection in Paris, and then I got a real witch behind me that was banging my seat ... on purpose....every time i feel asleep she would hit the seat back..... after 12+ hours of no sleep, no smoking....i was ready to fight when i got off plane....she was lucky my hubby was with me....talking in my ear saying "calm down honey" LOL

With any flight, be sure to have a slip on type shoe....so you can take them off ....and put your feet up if possible....like on top of your bag under the seat....the first time i went to vegas, i didn't do that...and when i got home....I had NO ankles....feet were swollen really bad.

OK more and more I am wanting to just drive to Vegas rather than fly there. I know it would be faster to fly, but I am not sure I could handle a bumpy plane ride! I would proably freak out. It would proably be better for me to keep my butt on earth where it belongs,LOL.

Nah, don't drive. Flying is fun after you do it a few times. Plus you will get there so much faster and you will have time to check in to your room and relax or go have some fun first.

In the long run it would probably cost about the same to fly verses driving, depending on where you live.

When you drive there you will have to get an oil change before going, unless it was done recently, and then get one when you return if you live in the East.
And then there's the wear and tear on your vehicle to think about.
Food and gas costs more these days, plus your chance of getting in an accident is much higher on the roads the longer you stay on them.

I love to drive too, but it would take me over a day to travel from the East coast.

The only way to find out if you like flying, is to get on a plane and go for it.

I was scared my first time at age 18. My mother told me we flew in one of those old prop-jobs a couple times when we were really young, but I barely remember it.
Anyways, I flew from Charleston, SC to Atlanta, GA, and then to San Franciso at night. I'll never forget the takeoff.
The plane was an old DC-10, one huge engine on each wing.
After lift-off (I like to call it) at a 45 degree angle, it seemed like, in 30 seconds Charleston was a small city and getting smaller. I had a window seat and it was awesome!

Took only 35 minutes or so to reach Atlanta and then we took a 727 from there to Frisco. This plane had three smaller engines by the tail and it was smooth flying. They still use these aircraft today because they are so dependable.

So, it wasn't too bad of a trip for my first flight. The Rockies were a bit rough because it was at night and there seems to be more updrafts at night.

Going to Las Vegas there's only a few mountains to fly over, but it's been a smooth ride on every flight.

I think you will like flying queen of hearts.
