Here are some slot machine terminology:

Fill: The coins need to be removed because it is full

Hit rate: The time difference between a slot that will hit and not hit

Pay Table: The different ways you get paid on the amount of lines you play

Progressive Slots: When the slot machine offers a growing jackpot

Most places don't have real coins anymore, you can use bills and you get vouchers back.

They still use the term coin for betting units though..

How many coins you play per spin is an interesting decision, sometimes it seems like machines like one value better than anopther. And sometimes when you change coin value the machine seems to change the number of wins it hits.

But then, so much about playing slots is superstition, there is really no telling if these things are coincidence or not.

How many coins you use per spin verses the amount of wins has always had me thinking too.

I've tried it out on a few machines during my last visit to Vegas.
I would play on one machine and see where it was hitting the most and then move to a different machine and try the same coin bet ammount.
I had noticed that by using the same coin bet ammount that hit on one machine was nearly the same on hits with a different machine.

Just something you may want to try while on the slots.

I haven't done enough research to find out if all the machines are set this way, but it wouldn't hurt just to give it a try.

I am going to look into this coin betting a little deeper on my next visit to a casino, it may have been a fluke when I made this discovery on my last visit.

You will find a huge difference between the government controlled casinos in Vegas and local Indian casinos.

The government makes pretty sure the licenced casinos all adhere to a strict setting of the machines, making then properly random.

Indian casinos do not have these strict rules enforced, so you never know what may be going on there.

total fluke... the random number generator has no idea how many coins you bet nor does it care. changing the bet is as useful as constantly taking out your players card and then re inserting. slot myths 101.

I was in Las Vegas when I tried this little test of mine. And hey, guess what, it actually worked.

I only tried three machines as a personal test and I would have to try several other different kinds of slots to see how they respond with different coin bets.

In the indian casinos I have hit on every other slot machine from midnight to about 2am in the morning, during the week from Monday through Thursday. These times may vary at present day, but these were the facts based on actual slot play several years ago at Harrah's Casino.

Here's something to ponder about raising a bet being a "fluke";
You are sitting at a slot machine for 15 minutes on a 2 coin bet and you are trying for the free games, but they don't come up. You bump up the coin ammount to 3 coins and several spins later the free games are activated. You cash out.

You go to another machine starting at the usual 2 coin bet for about 5 minutes and decide, hey the 3 coin bet worked on the other machine, I'll try it on this one also. In less than 10 spins the free games are activated. You cash out.

You go to the third machine and try the same thing getting the same response.

It was just a fluke that this happened to me. But it was fun winning the extra $100 or so by trying something I thought might work.

Only in Vegas, right?

the risk of not betting max, on machines where you are punished for not doing so, is the casino edged goes through the roof. same as people who play less than max on progressives. the casino loves these people since they can NEVER win the jackpot. "systems" can be fun but they are only in one's head. on a machine where the bet is relative to the payout then changing the bet for "fun" is fine. on machines where the paytable changes dramatically, from coin to coin, it is financial suicide.....
